Correct Answer!

Some malfuntions of gages produce predictable errors that can be accounted for and allow continued use of data from critical gages. For example, the conduits that hold pressure transducer sensor in the river can be bent by floating or submerged debris during high flow. The resulting error can sometimes be assessed and used to correct data during the life of the event. The error can be assessed by noting the difference in the observed data. For example, if the sensor is bent up 5 feet, the data will show a sudden drop of 5 feet. Alternatively, a manual observation using a staff gage can be compared to the sensed data to get the correction.
